DPP1 rainbow

The last couple of months my creativity has been on a very very low level, actually almost non existing.
In order to reignite it I searched for some ideas and stumbled across Daisy yellows daily paper prompts:
a series of 67 techniques-based creative prompts to learn, practice or otherwise interpret a variety of techniques that could then be components or lead to new ideas for art.
It is a little nudge to help me commit to a recurring creative play date.

Prompt 1 is rainbows.

I started out by selecting all the colors of the rainbow in panda oil pastels and colored the rainbow in the shape of a heart, no thinking just doing.
I felt like creating a sunburst so I took a babywipe and wiped  stripes from the inner heart outward.

Next I punched out a whole bunch of butterflies in the same colors and glued them on the corresponding colored heart.
However I seem to have issues keeping them glued down on the oil pastels, should I have sealed it first? Or use another type of glue? (I now used Rangers glossy accents)

The prompt did the trick because I did 2 pages in one go.
On the second page I sprayed Dylusions spray inks over the page in the colors of the rainbow, on a separate page I colored the rainbowcolors diagonally with oil pastels, cut out hearts in different sizes and glued them to the page.
I created some drips on the top with white ecoline, only to realize that of course the Dylusions react with waterbased products, oops.

Not sure whether this page is finished or not, but for now I call it finished.

Forgive and forget

Still in the Valentine theme, my F for the Alpha/dictionary challenge at The Craft Barn stands for forgive and forget.
The background is build up by first stamping some hearts in Versamark and then spraying some red DI on top.

Then some more stamping: some red hearts and a black script heart.

Next I cut this cute little bird silhouette and covered it in purple glitter (needless to say that everything is now covered in purple glitter J)

Lastly I typed out my definition:
Grudges only weigh you down and inspire unhappiness and grief.
Soar above it, and remember that everyone makes mistakes.

a little break

Hello,
Finally I managed to squeeze in some crafting time, the last week and a half I have been busy with installing my new craft room in the attic. I'm nowhere finished but it is progressing and was in need of a break so I made my calender page for December where the prompt is tree and the color to use silver and/or gold.(all details can be found here)

I cut a new stencil with the Cameo and sprayed it with green and turquoise Dylusions. Added some gold and silver words related to Christmas (naughty or nice; checking it twice; Santa Claus) and added the black stylish tree also cut with the Cameo, only need to figure out how to easily glue these intricate designs.

Coincidentally the last weekly challenge of 2015 asks for tree so I will be entering this page also for that.
I also will be linking up to let's play, because this was just the play I needed to get me going again with moving.

to owl or not?

I really liked the process of creating the background on the blossom page and remember I had a few options to go with that page, I eventually choose the flowers, but the owl was also a possibility. So I thought I would redo it, but this time on a canvas. I actually took 3 canvases and used 3 different colors and different media: gel sticks, inktense pencils and Dylusions paint.

Next I grabbed a dozen of my self made stencils and started stenciling away.
I got so caught up in the moment I forgot to take a picture of the green-yellow one but I think you get the picture.

Then I started fiddling with the focal images for each canvas, and guess what the owl didn't make it again.

Once I've figured out how the set up an online store, these will be up for sale.
I think the princess and mermaid would be perfect for a girl's room.

steampunk angel

Yesterday I got cracking with some of my new supplies.
I wanted to use the technique whereby you wipe away ink with a damp babywipe through a stencil, therefore I needed to gesso my page first.
Unfortunately the gesso dulls the otherwise so vibrant Dylusions. (but in this case was just perfect for that autumn feel)
Here you can see the difference between Dylusions on a gessoed surface (on the left) or not

Creating some interest in the background by removing some ink through a leaf stencil and by adding some walnut DI through the same stencil (so 2 different ways to use a stencil)

The page begged for some script stamping, so out came the stamp with one of my new stamp pads, dew drop brilliance red gold.
I also went around the edges of the page with the stamp pad.
I like the size of the pads, they are easy to hold in your hand.

As a focal point I used the steampunk angel from Viva décor and heat embossed it with Halloween  embossingglitter from WOW!
After a search through my drawer filled with embellishment I found the perfect match

I would like to enter this page for following challenges:

night and day

This weeks challenge over at the Craft barn was day and night.

I do not have step by step pictures this time, was too much in to creating to be bothered to grab my camera, sorry. I sprayed the top part of the page with after midnight  Dylusions and the bottom with a blend of lemon zest and squeezed orange. Next I added the brick wall with red acrylic paint through a stencil on top of which I stamped these 3 cute little owls. I then masked them off to stamp the script stamp in the background ( if I would have had a plan to begin with I would have done that first before stamping the owls lol) Searched for a suitable quote which Goodnight sleep tight (don't let the bedbugs bite) uhm, wake up bright in the morning light is.
Thanks for stopping by and till next time, bye.

Why?

I think that's a question a lot of us ask when hearing about the tragedy of flight 9525 of Germanwings.
I tried to create a serene page in remembrance of those unfortunate people.
I sprayed Dylusions in different hues of blues and purples and spritzed water on top which reacts with the ink

Added some white paint splatters (very addictive and always difficult to stop)

Added gold star stickers, each for one of the lives lost and the question why (I might have found a good opaque white pen, a simple correctionfluid pen)

I'm just in time to enter this week's Craft Barn challenge where the prompt was to create an interesting background using either inks, paints or brusho's.

Gift

I waited yet again till the last minute to make my entry for this forthnight's Q&L challenge where the 2 words were destiny & gift. I choose for gift and this wonderful quote: the best gift you can give is a hug, one size fits all and no one will care if you return it.
I started by looking for a cute image of hugging and found this one somewhere in my stash. I glued them on a paper towel canvas:

I initially planned to make a background which I would cut up in pieces to make a sunray. So I started, very relaxed, intuitively, no stress at all because it would be cut anyway. Well, it turned out that I liked it so much that I didn't want to cut it up and just used it as it is, just resized it to 21x21cm:

I added our little cuddly friends and used the cut off part of resizing as a tag, coincidentally it was exactly the wright size. Love it when everything just falls together. I attached the tag with this cute paperclip.

when you lift the tag the quote goes on

I will also be linking this to sundays sentiments tomorrow.

Flower

Just in time to make the deadline of this challenge.
I choose the word flower.
Normally I first find a quote where I make my page up around but this time I just started with the flower theme and added the quote at the end.
When I read this quote with flower and butterfly in it I knew this one was the perfect quote.

The background is sprayed with Dylusions.
To create a subtile effect I laid a flower stencil by crafters workshop and sprayed some water through it which then reacts with the Dylusions.
I also added some texture paint through the same stencil on some spots, this apparently also reacted with the Dylusions because it took over the color but with a nice shimmer to it.
Then some flower stamps which some of them were heat embossed with blue embossing powder.
The tag was made in the same way.

Birthday calendar - April

It's already the first again, so time for this months birthday calendar

This is the step-by-step:

  • take a random piece of scrapbookpaper (pattern/color doesn't really matter because most of it will be covered up anyway)

  • apply a layer of gesso and add some dimension with texture paste and a stencil:

  • then for the really fun part some drippage with dylusions spray ink

  • add some stamping and some more stenciling, this time with some acrylic paint

I really like the page and don't want to cover any of it up with all the dates, so I'm thinking I will write the birthdays randomly on the page.

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully you got through the day without being fooled or tricked.

Birthday calendar month Augustus

I didn't want a store bought birthday calendar, instead I started making my own original "artsy" calendar.
For the mont of august I was inspired by summer, so I used vibrant colors and flowers.

I started by spraying a 12x12 piece of white paper with water and Dylusions sprayink and dabbed it dry with kitchen towel. I then used a stencil and sprayed some more water; let it sit for a moment and dabbed it dry, this created a bleach effect.(technique by Dyan Reaveley)

The flowers were made using gelli prints. If you own a gelli plate you will already know that the stack of prints pile up quite rapidly. It is so addictive! This definitely was a good investment.
I just cut out the petals and glued them on the background and used a button for the centre.

Now I just have to punch a hole in the left top corner and hang it on the wall using a metal ring.
Next month I will reveil Septembers design.

Hope you enjoyed my first 'real' post and wish to see you back soon.
Bye for now.

I will be linking this post to August's colorful gelli print party from the very talented Carolyn Dube.
