Birthday card

I used a piece of  1 of the 7 backgrounds I created during this months journal workshop monthly challenge to make this card.
I added a lace border, this querky fun bird stamp which I colored with neocolor II watersoluble crayons and a corner stickers.

This was rather a quick card because the background was already finished, very handy indeed.

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day 7

Final layers today.

Added silver and blue glitter glue to the circles, I’m glad I found 6 more layers for this one that fits in perfectly with the metallic look of the first layer.

Sprayed the bricks with postbox red Dylusions sprayink (I am definitely going to add some shading to those bricks, layer 8 J)

Added a rose stamp all over, it’s not good visible, but it’s there

Added a script stamp

With this one I cheated a bit, I wanted to add shading to the birds but wasn’t happy how this turned out and added something else, some green washi tape with stars.

Outlined the design of the stencil I sprayed in layer 3

I already liked the butterflies so much I just added some written text around the border inspired by the wall of words stencil from Carolyne Dube: enchant, delight and fascinate.

There is a follow up on this challenge, 3 journal pages in 7 days. I thought we were going to use these backgrounds as a start and turn them into proper journaling pages, but we start afresh. So I will have to make my own challenge with these backgrounds, will keep you posted on the progress.

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day 6

Goodmorning everybody,

It's a grey sundaymorning here, so I thought to bring some sunshine with some colorful backgrounds in progress.

I colored the stamped watches with watersoluble crayons

Made some texture paste and applied it through a homemade brick stencil

added some detail to the butterflies with liquids pearls petal pink

stamped stars with stazon in 3 colors:olive green, ganache and claret

With this background I went a bit radical, I colored it in using 3 colors of gelsticks, glad I did that because now I'm finally starting to like it.

To keep with the metallic I added some pink metallic thread

I outlined the tape with a white gelstick and added it also to the raised areas of the texture paste.

This weather is excellent to go to my studio and apply the last layer to these backgrounds without having to feel guilty.
thanks for stopping by and be sure to come back tomorrow to see the finished backgrounds.

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day 5

Day 5 aka layer 5, here is what I did:

I added some die cut butterflies that were sitting on my desk in my collection jar

stamped and heat embossed some circles in gold, really loving the cohesiveness of this page

Added some tape, also in purple.

stamped some faux stitching trying to create kind of a quilt, this page needs a real lift, got to get my thinking cap on for the next layer, because only 2 more to go.

colored the pieces of bookpage with DI

used my new butterfly stamp and heat embossed in green

On this page I was looking for a flower stamp but when I came across my clock stamp I took this instead and I'm glad I did

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day 4

Ok, preperations are done for this afternoons B-day party, so I'm taking a 5 minute break to show you the progress on my backgrounds.

Staying with the metallic theme I added some gold and silver splatters:

Again there was some blue paint left over from my son's play that evening, so I used that to colorize some texture paste and applied that through the same stencil I used with the spray inks yesterday.

Hardly visible here, but I sprayed my page using the Lindy's stamp gang glitz spritz from the victorian bouquet set.

Even harder to see, I added white stitches with a posca pen.

Some black acrylic paint through an alphabet stencil

Outlined the textbook and border with black gelstick.

Added these lines with black acrylic paint and a piece of string

Now I'm going to mentally prepare myself for an invasion of a bunch of 5 year olds J

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day 3

Ok, I skipped a day, but that is to create some even more suspense J
So without further ado here are the results of the 7 backgrounds after day 3:

Added some black circles with different sizes of bottle caps

There was some blue acrylic paint left on a palette from my son earlier that evening and didn't want to waste that so I created a border:

Sprayed some Dylusions spray ink through a stencil, really like this one now

Added some birds:

Glued some textbook down, really liking how this one is evolving, because this was my least favorite, but not anymore:

Outlined the stinciling work from yesterday with a black pen

And with the same black pen added some doodling around the edges of the collage

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day2

Here's what I added as second layer on my 7 backgrounds in process:

some drippage with Liquitex Ink! phtalocyanine blue

Grungy silver B stickers

When I made this background yesterday with the texture paste and saw the outcome I immediately knew I wanted to use it on the gelli plate as a texture plate and look how even more fabulous it is now

Over the embossed music notes I sprayed some Dylusions: lemon zest, fresh lime and vibrant turquoise

Here I added some harlequin stamping with stazon black

The paper collage I outlined with some soft pastels

On top of the napkin transfer I applied some Folkart acrylic paint in the color pumpkin through a stencil.

Already I have a couple I like more then others, wonder whether this will stay of change during the process.
Keep tuned.

7 backgrounds in 7 days - day 1

This months challenge over on Journal workshops is creating 7 backgrounds in 7 days.
After watching the video I interpreted it as adding each day a layer to the page (or 7 pages to be more precise).
For more info go over here.
I took 5 pieces of regular cardstock, 1 watercolor paper and a black paper to start with. (Is this then layer 1? J)
And this is what I did on day 1

Added pearlescent texture paste through a stencil

Iron a paper napkin to the cardstock:
you make a sandwich of paper, plastic wrap and top layer of napkin, place delipaper on top and iron it, this fuses the plastic wrap in between the layers adhering the napking to the paper.

Sponged some metallic paint on the piece of black cardstock

Used my 3 new sprays from Lyndy’s stampgang Sidekick Victorian bouquet.

Clear embossed a music note stamp which will react as a resist with the further layers.

Made a paper collage, I only used 1 piece of scrap paper which I cut in different shapes.

Come back tomorrow to see the progress on these backgrounds as I apply layer 2.

I have never...

October’s challenge over on Journal workshops is to create something with a technique or supply you have never used before.
Ok, I can name a few supplies I have never used because I simply don’t have them (yet), like pan pastels, inktense pencils (all on my birthdaywishlist by the way, which is next week, so fingers crossed J)
But I also never have done a proper collage, meaning I often glue some pieces of scrap down as a basis but I have never created an image out of several magazine cutouts before. So this was my challenge for this month.
I did some research, because I did not have a clue on how or where to begin. I’m really thankful that there exists something like YouTube, I found the videos from Tracy 'Teesha' Moore very helpful.
After watching them I felt a bit more confident to get started.

So I grabbed a piece of aquarelpaper and slapped some yellow and ochre watercolorpaint on it.

Added a collaged border

And made this image out of: picture of a child’s windmill, a body, a scarf, a head and a perfume bottlecap as hat.

Next came the altering of the image with some doodles (also something I hardly ever do and do not feel comfortable about, need to practice some more on this, I recently bought a book on this topic so no excuse there)
I still wasn't completely satisfied with the result, it was missing legs, so I attempted to draw some myself, and then it hit me she needed an oversize handbag.

Next came the quote: It's better to have tried and failed than never tried at all.
I wanted to have a go at doing the lettering but chickened out and used a stencil in the end. Next time maybe.

I will be linking this to
JunkJournal FB as this was made using magazine cutouts which otherwise would have landed in the recycle bin. (so this is page #22)
