Birthday calendar July

First of all I would like to say how overwhelmed I am with all the visits recently to my blog and all the warm, positive comments.
It feels really good to be appreciated as a crafter.
So a big thank you to all of you for taking time to visit and leaving a comment.

And now on to this months birthday calendar.
I didn’t need to search long for inspiration this time,as this is the beginning of the summerholidays what better theme than the beach.

I took a picture of our holiday as background and framed it with sand and some shells.

O, how great would it be to have 2 months summerholidays like in the good old schooldays, imagine how much crafting you could do...
enough daydreaming for one day, till next time, bye.

Birthday calendar - June

For this months calendar I cut 31 squares from 5 cm x 5 cm, glued them to a piece of white scrapbook paper and stitched them with my sewing machine.
I must say I have a sewing machine but hardly ever use it, I’m actually totally useless at sewing. I even still ask my mum to sew on a button, I know shame on me.
So now and then I feel the urge to learn to sew and that’s where this page came from.

So and as you can see it is very amateuristicly sewn, need lots more practice but it just doesn’t appeal to me, the time I can spent crafting  I rather spent it with getting my fingers painty an inky than learning to sew.

Birthday calendar - May

Just a quick post (too tired after a long bike ride this morning and a swim this afternoon, it is a national holiday in Belgium so spent some quality time with the family) with this months' birthday calendar.

I was inspired to make this page after watching a video from Samie Harding on how to create a spray ink textured page.

As you can see no birthdays on here yet, if it's anyone's birthday let me know :-)

Birthday calendar - April

It's already the first again, so time for this months birthday calendar

This is the step-by-step:

  • take a random piece of scrapbookpaper (pattern/color doesn't really matter because most of it will be covered up anyway)

  • apply a layer of gesso and add some dimension with texture paste and a stencil:

  • then for the really fun part some drippage with dylusions spray ink

  • add some stamping and some more stenciling, this time with some acrylic paint

I really like the page and don't want to cover any of it up with all the dates, so I'm thinking I will write the birthdays randomly on the page.

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully you got through the day without being fooled or tricked.

birthday calendar - March

Just a quick post with this month's birthday calendar.
It had been a while ago (or so it seems to me anyway) that I played around with my gelli plate, so I decided to gelli print this month's birthday calendar.
This is the first time I printed on a bigger sheet of paper (12x12) than the size of my plate(8x12). But it turned out just fine.

Birthday calendar for February

It's the first of a new month, so you know what that means, the reveal of this months birthday calendar

As it is February and a lot of people celebrate Saint Valentine I went a bit romantic.
I love the fabric flowers, they are so supereasy to make, the only issue they are bulky and quite heavy, I am going to figure out a way of reinforcing the ringhole because it will tear in time otherwhise.

The doodled hearts are a free downloadable from Consie over at Atop serenity Hill. Many Thanks, they were just the perfect finishing touch.

birtday calendar - january

HAPPY NEW YEAR,

I wish you first of all good health because without that we can't do anything.
I also wish you a lot of creativity and time to do so.

And without further ado, I hereby reveil this months birthday calendar

This month it's my mother-in-laws birthday and as she is currently in a black-and-white fase I got my inspiration there. I cut black and white squares which I then embossed and added either white or black ink to highlight the embossed images. added some grey flowers made out of bookpages to finish it all of.

Birthday calendar November AND Sweepstake!!!

This month’s birthday calendar didn’t came as easy as the rest did because I wanted it to be extra special, as a lot of special people have their birthday in November (including me, my son and my mum, always a busy time and the start of the festive season with some more birthdays in December and Christmas just around the corner). So it took a while before I dear to begin and pondered a lot about it, but as November drew closer I just needed to get a start on it.
I started out with an image stamped with a mixed media doll stamp by Julie Nutting. I like this stamp and previously used it already on my price winning glitter page at the alpha/dictionary challenge from The Craft Barn.
I saw this awesome idea  on how to edit the primadoll stamps by scrapinmaniac corner (why didn’t I think about that earlier?). So off I went with scanning ,enlarging and printing the image.
Traced the body on a bookpage and a piece of paper out of my scrapbooking stash became the dress. This girl has a sixties feeling to me so I tried to capture that vibe by using different colored circles and adding the pattern of a disco ball with a homemade stencil and some purple sprays.

Gabrielle Pollaco made an awesome mixed media canvas with a cute haute couture doll and is so kind to share the template for this beautiful creation.
I downloaded the template and made this doll which together with the sixties doll I would like to give away to one of you.

All you need to do is leave a comment and become a follower and/or subscribe by mail. The sweepstake is open all of november (until Saturday 30 november 2013 midnight GMT+1) I will be selecting and announcing the winner on december the first. Good luck!

Birthday calendar – October

The tartan background was made using alcohol inks:
apply dots of the desired colors next to each other on a folded baby wipe

and apply on the paper, re-ink when necessary.

The background of the actual calendar was made by using green ecoline, sprinkling some salt on it and leave it a while to absorb. It was a little bit too bright as it was to my likings so I added woodn' bucket brown antiquing medium from Folkart.
Add some different textures  for interest and voila, won’ t forget any birthdays this month :-)

Birthday calendar - September

For the month September I used a technique that is so simple but gives magnificent results.
Just spray some different colors sprayink  ( I used some of my homemade shimmerpaints: paint/water/perfect pearls by Ranger) on a piece of cardstock

lay a piece of cling film over it and wrinkle it

Peal of the cling film and dab of the excess paint with kitchenpaper ( repeat the process if necessary):

I just love how it looks like marble.

Just LOVE those butterflies!!!
