DPP4 flowers

For this prompt I started with a collage of leftover flower patterned paper.

Overstamped the collage with different flower stamps in black.

Next I added some color, it needed to be translucent so I used ecoline watercolor.
And I felt like handpainting some flowers, so i did.

I cut out these cute images of hummingbirds out an old National Geographic magazine, just perfect.

simple and clean - WOYWW 352

I don’t mean my workdesk, simple and clean is the current challenge at The Craft Barn.
When I first read the challenge I didn’t have a clue as what to do because I usually don’t do simple and clean, especially the clean part J

After some browsing on pinterest found some ideas and set to work on some cards, usually don’t do cards either but coincidentally it turns out I am in need of some cards as there are some birthdays coming up. So how does my desk look like after creating a clean card, well not that clean I must say.

For those curious how the card turned out, here it is

We also needed to include a flower and a sentiment.

Now I still have some more ideas, but first I'm off seeing what everyone else is up to. Not familiar with WOYWW, hop on over to our wonderful host Julia at  the stamping ground.

hometown/corrugated cardboard

Hello there and welcome,
I'm running a little behind (already) with my JAM challenge.
We're already on our 5th prompt today and this is only my 3rd finished page.

My hometown is Tildonk, a small village (only 7.3 km²) near Leuven in Belgium.
For my page I used a magazine picture of an art deco hall in the sint-angela convent which is now a school, museum and restaurant.

I've created 3 flowers out of corrugated cardboard following this tutorial and the letters were cut with the Cameo.
I also will be entering this page in the weekly Craft Barn challenge, where the theme this week is triplets.

JAM 1 - name

This year I will also be taking part in the JAM (Journal about me) challenge hosted by Tiaresmith (all details can be found on her blog).
We will be creating a round page each week with a given prompt and challenge.
Week 1: prompt is your name and the challenge is to use a babywipe.

Here is a step by step how I created this page

Colored my circle
with an ochre and brown
gel stick.

used a babywipe
to create
a more watercolor effect.

tried a new technique, image transfer with matte medium.
glued my laserprint image down with matte medium, left it for an hour, after an hour wetted it with water and rubbed the paper away with my fingers and tada my image of Queen Victoria has been transferred.

I stamped a border all around
and cut the letters of my name
with my cameo
out of a scrap piece of paper.

The flowers are actually made out of babywipes, I have a stash of them dried in my drawer (never throw anything away), cut circles out of them, hit them with a heatgun so they crumble up, glue them together and add a center.
This also fits in perfectly with this month's lets play theme so I will also be linking there.

Blossom

I had so much fun making this page and I believe that is visible.
I started by coloring the background in different shades of green with inktense pencils and wiped over it with a damp babywipe in a circular motion.

Next I took a variety of my homemade stencils (I use a heat tool for cutting them)

and stencilled away with acrylic paint.

Loving the result.
Of course this has as a side effect that I start to hesitate about what to do next.
First I thought about using  this owl image

Then I thought of creating a disco scene

But after a good night’s rest it dawned upon me, flowers.

I'd like to enter this page for The Craft Barn challenge: stencils and masks.

circles and flowers

This is my entry for this weeks challenge over at the Craft Barn (all details can be found here)

I started by shaking some yellow brusho powder on my page, spritzing it with some water and using a sponge brush to color the page

Next I spritzed some darker colors (purple, marine blue and black) and hit it with some water.

Initially I intended to color circles from a stencil, instead I just outlined them with different colors of pens.

Next I used my favorite background stamp set and stamped all over the page in a very precise manner (not)

That was the circle part done, now for the flower part I glued down a whole bunch of flowers on the left side of the page (you could imagine that these are part of a very large circle)

And what is a flower, or a page, without some butterflies, wright?

May

I finally finished my May page for the Craft Barn calendar challenge where the 2 prompts are magenta and flowers.
I started by pulling out my gelli plate and making a print using magenta acrylic paint and a flower mat.
Next I stamped different sizes of flowers on patterned paper, cut them out and attached them with eyelets to the page.
This stage was done a while ago but I just couldn’t decide on what to add in the center. Until yesterday, suddenly it dawned to me, why not just add the word May, simple, no?
So I wrote the word May, gave it an outline and added a glittery butterfly. All done.

Flower

This week the challenge over at the Craft Barn is to make something flowery. All the details can be found here.
This is what I came up with

I started by selecting 3 sheets of patterned paper to make the flower for which I found a template here.

These dictated me the background color for my spread in my newspaper journal, I used a fuchia inktense pencil. Did some stamping on top with a heart script (which I also used on the inside cover of the journal) in black stazon and some diamonds in a green shade.

Next I stenciled the face, gave her red lips and green eyes and added this flower in her hair.

The flower didn't turn out like the example, but that's okay, I distressed the edges with walnut DI and added a gem in the center.
The border got another color of inktense, a mauve one this time and I stenciled some flourishes in white acrylic paint.
Have a nice, creative weekend all.

How much junk on 1 page??? (junk journal page #4)

I finally managed to finish the next page for my junk journal.
Clare gave us kind of a challenge, wondering how much junk we can use on one page.
I’m always up for a challenge so of I went and this is what I turned up with:
(sorry for the picture because it's so bulky I couldn't scan it and my photography skills aren't that great)

I started with a piece of cardboard from a cereal box (#1) which I painted green with paint that was leftover on my pallet (#2).
The pink was added by cleaning of my stencils(#3)

The frame is made by using cut out hearts that were sitting on my desk, I intended to use them on this month’s birthday calendar, but they were too bright for it and I had redone them in a softer color, so they were in fact junk (#4)
The hearts led me to a romantically themed page which needed cherubs and flowers.
The flowers I made from newspaper (#5) and a die cut.

This is how the pieces look when die cut, then you role them up using a quilling pen.
The cherubs are images from a napkin. They needed golden wings, but  as I didn’t have any stamps, I made one myself, this is my first attempt at carving a stamp, not too bad if I say so myself:

I definitely going to buy some more blocks for carving and attempt to make some more unique stamps.
In the rigth bottom corner I glued a row of hearts which I used as a mask whilst gelli printing (#6)
The last piece of junk I used on this page was a pair of black earrings in the shape of angel wings which were from a secondhand store, so they were someone’s junk, but my treasure (#7)

So my answer to Clare’s question is 7 for now.

Birthday calendar month Augustus

I didn't want a store bought birthday calendar, instead I started making my own original "artsy" calendar.
For the mont of august I was inspired by summer, so I used vibrant colors and flowers.

I started by spraying a 12x12 piece of white paper with water and Dylusions sprayink and dabbed it dry with kitchen towel. I then used a stencil and sprayed some more water; let it sit for a moment and dabbed it dry, this created a bleach effect.(technique by Dyan Reaveley)

The flowers were made using gelli prints. If you own a gelli plate you will already know that the stack of prints pile up quite rapidly. It is so addictive! This definitely was a good investment.
I just cut out the petals and glued them on the background and used a button for the centre.

Now I just have to punch a hole in the left top corner and hang it on the wall using a metal ring.
Next month I will reveil Septembers design.

Hope you enjoyed my first 'real' post and wish to see you back soon.
Bye for now.

I will be linking this post to August's colorful gelli print party from the very talented Carolyn Dube.
